It's not often us Jersey folk say "Wow, Jersey government just did something awesome", but that was just the case when this article came our way earlier this year.
One of the biggest issues new construction has are inspections. And what is one of the main culprits of these grievances? Time...it just takes them so long to get on their schedule and if by chance you don't pass...well weeks will go by until you can get back on their schedule for reinspection.
However, in Jersey, this no longer is the case. Effective January 2023, if local officials cannot come to a construction site to perform their on-site inspection within a 3-day window, the developer can hire a private inspection company to come perform the duties. Will this have a cost? Of course; but what if the cost of waiting on the local agencies to come back may mean a 2, 3, 4 week delay in opening? I can't say for sure, but I will assume the extra cost for private inspection will certainly pay itself back when you can open weeks before.
Let's hope this isn't just a "Jersey thing" and other states (if they do not have it already) take notice and help businesses open and not let the red tape stand in their way.
