HOW AMERICANS VIEW THEIR JOBS-PEW RESEARCH CENTER

Primary Source: The Pew Research Center

How satisfied are you with your job? Are you just content? Are you happy? Are there some factors you like and others you dislike? Do you have strong, healthy relationships with your peers? Or your supervisors?

I'm sure these are questions we've all asked ourselves; especially during and after the Covid crisis. But now that we're "settled" back in, how many of us have fallen back into routine like it was 2019?

The Pew Research Center recently conducted a survey asking 5,902 U.S. workers their feelings towards their job, including their relationships with their peers, the workplace, pay rate, benefits, and how often do they use their paid time off.

Reviewing the chart below, a little over half are satisfied with their job; however, the majority of their "happiness" comes from relationships, with 67% extremely happy with their peers and 62% with their supervisors. The only other two that were above 50% was their commute and daily tasks.

The report is extensive, and I highly suggest taking the time to review the entire report. Aside from the chart below, here are some bullet points that piqued our interest:

  • 39% of the workforce think their job reflects and plays a major role to their overall identity.

  • Paid time off is a major benefit.

  • Employees who receive consistent feedback are happier with their job and supervisors.

  • 30% of the workforce will reply to emails/messages outside of regular hours.

  • Workers do not use their time wisely...literally, about half of the workforce do not use all the paid time off offered by their employer.
