On Tuesday, May 17 AMOA members met with six key legislative offices from both House Financial Services and Senate Banking as the association continues to focus on fair access to banking for its members. In late 2021, AMOA was pleased to see long advocated for updates finally made to the FFIEC BSA/AML examiner’s manual as it relates to independent ATM operators. Today, AMOA continues to advocate in making sure those updates are being recognized and communicated across the regulatory agencies.
In addition to fair access to banking, AMOA has also been hard at work in advocating for cash at retail legislation. Last Tuesday while we were virtually on the Hill, The Payment Choice Act (HB-4395) passed out of House Financial Services. You can see the press release here from the Consumer Choice in Payment Coalition of which AMOA is a founding member.
CALL TO ACTION – As The Payment Choice Act legislation continues to move forward, we will be reaching out and asking members to contact their legislators asking for them to support and sponsor this important cash at retail legislation.
The AMOA delegation also informed congressional leaders of the continuing challenges the industry faces due to staff shortages. When restaurants shorten their hours of operation, it also shortens our hours of operation. Participants relayed the message that should additional relief funds become available for restaurants, our industry should be included in this round.
